Verification of Competency: VOC

In addition to training and assessment services, Red Earth Training Solutions conducts a wide range of Verification of Competency (VOC) assessments.
VOC is an industry-recognised process used by employers to verify a worker’s current competency to safely operate specific plant or equipment.
VOC assessments can be conducted on site at your workplace or at our training facility in Burton, subject to site and equipment suitability.

Why Verification of Competency Is Important

Under Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation, the Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) is required to ensure that workers operating plant and equipment are competent to do so and that appropriate systems are in place to verify this competence.
VOC is one method commonly used by employers to support compliance with WHS obligations and is often undertaken as part of:

• Pre-employment checks
• Site or project mobilisation
• Ongoing competency verification
• Change of workplace, equipment or task

What a VOC Involves

A VOC assessment is both theory and practical-based and assesses whether a participant can demonstrate current competency to safely operate a specific item of plant or equipment.
To undertake a VOC, participants must already hold relevant evidence of competency, such as:

• A Statement of Attainment
• A High Risk Work Licence (where applicable)
• Employer authorisation or previous training evidence

VOC does not provide training and does not issue a nationally recognised qualification or licence.
It confirms competency at the time of assessment only.

VOC Outcomes

Upon successful completion:

• Participants will be issued with a VOC slip on the day of assessment
• A wallet-sized VOC card will be posted within five (5) business days to the address provided

The validity period of a VOC is determined by the employer or site requirements.

Fees

• VOC Assessment Fee: $360.00 per participant

Additional costs may apply for regional or workplace-based delivery.
Where applicable, a written quote will be provided prior to confirmation.
