Since the 1st of February 2024, the training you require to work in a temporary traffic management role has changed.

There are now three job roles and eight new national TTM training courses.  Each course is designed around the 3 road categories.

Category 1 – Urban Streets & Low Volume Rural Roads
Category 2 – High Volume Roads
Category 3 – Motorways & Freeways 

Therefore, depending on your job role and the road category you are working on, you will need to complete the relevant training program.

Traffic controller

  • TC 1 
  • TC 2
  • Individuals responsible for traffic control on category 1 roads 
  • Individuals responsible for traffic control on category 2 roads

Traffic Management Implementer

  • TMI 1
  • TMI 2
  • Individuals responsible for traffic management implementation on category 1 roads
  • Individuals responsible for traffic management implementation on category 2 roads

Current WZTM cardholders working on category 1-3 roads have 18 months, from 1st February 2024 until 1st August 2025 to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
