Hands-on training combining classroom, simulated, and live site experience. This course is designed for experienced traffic management personnel seeking to control traffic and implement traffic management plans in Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 environments, including high-volume and high-speed roads, in accordance with approved traffic management plans and regulatory requirements

- Face-to-face classroom delivery with simulated traffic management activities
- Includes theory (knowledge questions) and practical demonstrations
- Completion of multiple Category 2 traffic management setups
- Delivered in accordance with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) South Australia and Austroads Temporary Traffic Management requirements.
Duration
- Classroom Training: 2 Days
- Workplace Practical Training:
Minimum 20 hours in a live traffic environment on category 2 roads
Completion of at least one of the following traffic control activities:
- Controlling traffic on roads with posted speed limits greater than or equal to 60 km/hr
- Controlling traffic at signalised intersections where traffic signals are turned off
- Interpreting traffic control elements within traffic guidance schemes for high-volume roads
Completion of two (2) different traffic management setups based on approved traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes, selected from:
- Lane closure on a high-volume road using an electronic signalling device
- Static works involving a signalised intersection
- Night works
- Pedestrian controls at signalised intersections
- Contra-flow
- Shuttle flow
- Final live site practical assessment conducted on a Category 2 road
Live site practical training and final assessment must be completed within six (6) months of attending the classroom training

Entry Requirements
You must:
- Have Successfully completed RIISS00058 Traffic Controller Skill Set for Urban Streets & Low Volume rural Roads
- A minimum of 40 hours experience working in a temporary traffic management workplace in a traffic controller role
- Have successfully completed RIISS00060 Traffic Management implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads
- Provide evidence of a minimum of one (1) month experience applying the skills and knowledge relevant to RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads in a TTM workplace
- Provide evidence of setting up at least 12 TTM types including high speed roads, and at least two of the following types: pedestrian and cyclist controls; construction sites; lane closures; shoulder closures; night works; use of portable traffic control devices; motorways or freeways
- Provide valid photo ID (driver’s licence, passport, or proof-of-age card)
- Have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) – apply free at www.usi.gov.au
- Wear appropriate PPE: long-sleeve shirt, long trousers, and steel-capped boots (hi-visibility vest will be supplied by RETS if required)
- Be able to read, write, speak and understand English at a level sufficient to follow safety instructions and communicate effectively in the workplace
Language, Literacy, Numeracy & Digital Skills Requirements
All participants are required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills (LLND) assessment prior to enrolment.
This assessment is designed to ensure that all participants have the necessary skills to fully engage with the course content and assessment requirements. It is not intended to create barriers, but rather to support participants by identifying any areas where additional assistance may be needed, helping to set everyone up for success.
