Advanced training for experienced traffic management professionals. This course is designed for practitioners who are currently permitted within their jurisdiction to develop, review or audit traffic management designs and traffic guidance schemes, and who require nationally recognised certification aligned with the Austroads Temporary Traffic Management framework.

- Classroom Training: 3 Days
- Workplace based Practical Training:
- Completion of TMD Assessment 1 (commenced during classroom delivery)
- Completion of TMD Assessment 2
Practical assessment evidence must be completed within six (6) months of attending the classroom training

A $100 deposit is required upon booking to secure a course place. The remaining balance is payable on the first day of the course, unless otherwise specified.

Completion of this course does not guarantee employment. Issuance of certification and cards is subject to successful assessment and regulatory requirements.
Entry Requirements
You must:
- Have Successfully completed RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets & Low Volume Rural Roads or RIISS00061 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for High Volume Roads or RIISS00062 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Motorways and Freeways
- A minimum of 12 months experience applying relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace
- Provide evidence of experience setting up at least 20 different temporary traffic management types, across at least four (4) of the following design categories: Pedestrian and cyclist controls; Construction sites; Lane closures; Shoulder closures; Night works; Use of portable traffic control devices; Motorways or freeways
Alternative Entry Pathways
Learners may alternatively meet entry requirements by holding:
- An AQF Level 6 qualification in civil construction, traffic engineering or road design; or
- Entry requirements specifically detailed in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.
Transition Period Entry Requirements
(Valid until 1 February 2027)
During the transition period, additional entry requirements apply.
Jurisdictional Permissions
Learners must be currently permitted within their jurisdiction, prior to the jurisdictional adoption date, to:
- Develop, review or audit traffic management designs; or
- Develop, review or audit traffic guidance schemes
Evidence of Practice and Currency
Learners must demonstrate currency of practice by providing evidence that, within the past three (3) years, they have designed, reviewed or audited at least one of the following:
- 12 Traffic Management Plans (TMPs); or
- 12 Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS)
The TMPs or TGS must cover at least four (4) different worksite locations within the relevant jurisdiction, including one or more of the following:
- TTM Category 1
- TTM Category 2
- TTM Category 3
Additional Requirements:
- Provide valid photo ID (driver’s licence, passport, or proof-of-age card)
- Have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) – apply free at www.usi.gov.au
- Wear appropriate PPE: long-sleeve shirt, long trousers, and steel-capped boots (hi-visibility vest will be supplied by RETS if required)
- Be able to read, write, speak and understand English at a level sufficient to follow safety instructions and communicate effectively in the workplace
Learner Critical Resource Requirements
Learners must provide:
- A laptop and charger for in-class and post-course assessment activities
- Access to traffic management design software used in their workplace, such as: RapidPlan; AutoCAD; Road Manager; CorelDRAW; MS Paint; Google Draw
- Electronic access to the following reference materials: AS 1742.3:2019; Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management (AGTTM) Parts 1–10; Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA); SA Standards for Workzone Traffic Management Version 7.2 (2023); Field Guide – Traffic Control Devices for Workzone Traffic Management Version 9.1 (2021)
Language, Literacy, Numeracy & Digital Skills Requirements
All participants are required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills (LLND) assessment prior to enrolment.
This assessment is designed to ensure that all participants have the necessary skills to fully engage with the course content and assessment requirements. It is not intended to create barriers, but rather to support participants by identifying any areas where additional assistance may be needed, helping to set everyone up for success.
